Adopt-A-Road Information

What is Adopt-A-Road?

Adopt-A-Road is a litter prevention program sponsored by the City of Roswell’s Public Works/Environmental department and promoted by Keep Roswell Beautiful to attract public involvement in picking up litter along Roswell roadways. The objective is to reduce litter by having the community assume responsibility for the public right-of-way.

Who can adopt?

Any civic-minded organization, such as garden clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups, school clubs, businesses or business associations, and families can adopt a stretch of roadway within Roswell’s city limits.

What are the responsibilities of an adopting organization?

By adopting a section of roadway, an organization commits to controlling litter on the right-of-way. More specifically, the organization will:
  • Coordinate volunteers within the organization to improve the appearance of their adopted roadway
  • Coordinate litter pick-ups as needed with a minimum of six pick-ups per year
  • Report results to the Adopt-A-Road coordinator in the Public Works/Environmental department after each pick-up.

What are the responsibilities of the City of Roswell?

By supporting the Adopt-A-Road program, the Public Works/Environmental department will:

Furnish and erect two road signs indicating the section of roadway under adoption and the organization responsible

  • Furnish supplies necessary to aid with general litter pick-ups
  • Coordinate media coverage to inform the public of the program and
  • Provide assistance by department personnel and project coordinator in carrying out the overall plan.

Is there a safety factor to consider for volunteers?

Yes, and for this reason the Public Works/Environmental department will provide yellow safety vests to all volunteers. An age limit is also in existence to prevent young children from being on busy roadways.
