Volunteer Opportunities 

One of KRB’s most important services to the community is to provide environmental volunteer opportunities. Check out the list of opportunities and their general commitments below. Events

Bring One for the Chipper, first or second Saturday in January: Participants bring their Christmas tree to participating Home Depot locations to be chipped into free mulch for our community. Volunteers help unload trees, distribute free tree seedlings and hand our information on KRB. Generally 3-4 hours of work.

The Great American Cleanup, every Spring, April 15-June 15: Community group and individual cleanup events between March 21-June 21 coordinated by you in a local neighborhood or park of you choice. Generally 2-4 hours of work.

Roswell Rivers Alive Annual Cleanup, third Saturday in September: Annual city-wide cleanup day. For details click the Roswell Rivers Alive Annual Cleanup link.. Registration will begin in August. Generally 2-4 hours of work.

Great Annual Duck Race, Saturday, third Saturday in October: Annual KRB fundraiser. Volunteers assist with set-up and tear down, games, crafts, duck sales, and food/snacks. Volunteers comfortable wading in the creek are needed to catch the plastic ducks. Must know how to swim. 2-4 hours of work.

Year-round Opportunities

Adopt-A-Road: Regular litter cleanup of ~1 mile sections of Roswell roadways. Generally 1-2 hours every other month. Participants must be at least 12 years old. A great activity for groups, businesses, and families.

Adopt-A-Stream Water Quality Monitoring: Regular water quality monitoring that requires annual training. Chemical monitoring requires an annual training workshop and 1-2 hours of monitoring every month. Biological monitoring requires an annual training workshop and 1-3 hours of monitoring every 3 months (once per season). A great fit for homeschool or project based classrooms as well as small groups.

Storm Drain Marking Projects: One-time projects gluing decals to Roswell’s storm drains and picking up litter. Generally 1-3 hours per project, good for all ages with adult supervision.

Non-native, Invasive Plant Removal Projects: Plants such as Chinese privet, English ivy, kudzu, and bamboo are examples of non-native, invasive plants that displace native plants and degrade habitat. KRB partners with the City of Roswell and other groups to work on non-native, invasive plant removal and sometimes planting projects.

Individual Litter Cleanups: For groups looking to do a one-time cleanup to earn scout badges or community service hours, please contact City of Roswell (enviroeducation@roswellgov.com) to discuss needs and specifics.
